Michael D. Beland, MD is a Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at Brown University and adjunct Professor of Physics at the University of Rhode Island. He is Chief of Radiology at Kent Hospital and specializes in Body Imaging and Intervention including the use of x-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI. Dr. Beland graduated from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, completed a radiology residency at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University / Rhode Island Hospital and a fellowship in Abdominal Imaging and Intervention at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is an elected Fellow of both the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound and the Society of Abdominal Radiology. He has served as an Expert to the American College of Radiology (ACR) developing Appropriateness Criteria on Urological Imaging and the ACR committee on Thyroid imaging and reporting. Dr. Beland was Associate Editor for “Abdominal Radiology”, the official journal of the Society of Abdominal Radiology and multiple national committees. His areas of research interest include diagnostic and interventional ultrasound, body imaging and radiology education with multiple teaching and educational committee responsibilities as well as numerous abstracts, presentations, and publications in these areas.
