SUMMARY
This position is in Warwick, RI.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Information Technology, is responsible for overseeing the PACS system day to day functionality as well as coordinating long term activity including the development of PACS and digital imaging initiatives as well as storage capacity. Coordinates work teams and provides technical support to users of Rhode Island Medical Imaging (RIMI) digital infrastructure including networking, telecommunication and software systems that support RIMI’s mission. Also participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of computer-based information systems including modifications to computer software when necessary. Provides input regarding vendor-proposed hardware and software additions and changes and perform other related duties as assigned.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure accurate and timely transmission of images and data to the appropriate destinations; participates in modifying, developing and improving the hardware and software for the RIS, PACS and supporting systems; and manages the maintenance of department computer hardware.
Corrects production problems by analyzing programs or systems to determine root cause and implements solutions that prevent recurrence. Such solutions may include altering incorrect files, modifying existing computer systems and schedules, writing and running special programs and consulting with client department personnel, operations or other technical experts. Evaluates the solution to determine that all corrections have been properly made with no unanticipated and undesirable side effects.
Participates in the selection, implementation and maintenance of information systems best suited to the operational needs of RIMI departments.
Installs, configures, maintains and troubleshoots software. Performs necessary steps for installing new software releases timely and corrective codes on the server supplied by the vendor; installs client software for users.
Assists staff and outside users with difficult applications problems; responds to and resolves end user technical problems regarding equipment, and software performance and capabilities.
Provides input into the evaluation of new technical proposals to determine their appropriateness and compatibility to RIMI’s operation when needed.
May write or alter program code after determining appropriate language and environment for the program.
Analyzes and documents problems with vendor-supplied software and generates documentation for submission of software problems to vendor; contacts outside resources for input into resolving software problems and applies corrective action.
Provides individual and group instruction, as needed, on the use of equipment and software and on network features.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Picture Archiving and Communication Systems experience preferred. Understanding of Radiology Department workflow a plus.
Knowledge of the hardware and software systems and components used; ability to effectively manipulate computer hardware, software and systems. Skill in promptly detecting, analyzing and resolving computer software problems, sometimes with little time or data.
Ability to assist less experienced staff on technical issues. Ability to respond to telephone support and carefully work through problems.
Skill in expressing ideas, preparing and presenting oral and written reports.
Ability to provide useful advice or to facilitate discussion with other departments regarding future needs or changes.
Ability to quickly absorb and learn new technologies including software and hardware components and anticipate future applicability to RIMI operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in related healthcare discipline or information systems preferred, or work experience equivalent.

Rhode Island Medical Imaging (RIMI) has a network of 12 private state-of-the-art medical diagnostic imaging facilities that are staffed by over 70 board certified radiologists with broad-based experience and subspecialty training in Bone Densitometry (DEXA), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) including the most extensive 3T MRI imaging network in Rhode Island, Mammography, Ultrasound, and X-ray.
