MRI Technologist Assistant – Full Time

SUMMARY:

This position is located in Barrington, RI Monday- Friday 7:30 AM- 4:00 PM

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of the site manager and the MR Manager(s) and in accordance with established policies and procedures, performs a variety of functions to assist the MR department in the daily operation of the department such as greeting and welcoming patients, preparing patient and room for examinations, assisting with image sign-outs, assisting in maintaining inventory of supplies and cleanliness of work area, performing related duties such as completing forms and logging data into RIS accurately and completely.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Confirm and screen MR patients 2-4 hours per day under the direction of the Lead MR/CT Coordinator.  Inform patients of RIMI’s Medication Policy when necessary. 

Investigate any allergies, implants, recent colonoscopy and endoscopy exams.  Research on EPIC/CurrentCare or call outside facilities to retrieve information.  Scan in necessary paperwork and alert MR technologists so they can review MR Safety conditions.

Call for prior outside reports (including blood work when necessary).  Scan/attach to appropriate account in RIS.

Call for referral slips for patients needing x-rays for foreign body prior to MRI.  Call for exam referral slip if needed when reviewing the case.

Responsible to relay all important information and contraindications to MR technologist.

Follow procedures to ensure correct patient identification.

Assist with patients and prepare patient for MR imaging procedures. 

Screen MR patients for safe entry into MR environment and expedite Waters views when indicated. Assist patient in undressing, if necessary.

Prepare room for imaging procedure including correct coil selection and proper patient positioning to facilitate an accurate study.

Monitor pulse-ox levels on medicated patients and inform technologist if levels fall.

Assist MR technologist during preparation and administration of contrast.

Scan patient screening forms, medical release forms and all other pertinent medical documents.

Provide previous images or reports for comparison, at technologist’s request.

Clean and set up exam rooms and dressing rooms before and after use.  Maintain proper laundry inventory within exam rooms.

Discharge patient when exam is complete and upon technologist’s direction.

Log relevant data into computer terminal.

Acts as liaison between front office and MR department.

Burns CD’s at technologist or secretarial request and deliver to patient.

Assist in other areas as requested.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE

Equivalent to high school diploma.  Ability to read and write English and to perform basic arithmetic computations to verify shipments and perform stock reconciliation.

Clerical ability to maintain files and operate standard office equipment such as photocopier, fax machine and computer terminal.

Interpersonal skills to exchange information with other department personnel, patients and visitors.
